Melbourne mum goes viral on 'Safe Schools'

by Chris McCormack

News Weekly, July 29, 2017

An Australian mother’s video clip exposing what the “Safe Schools” program is teaching her children has gone viral, while in Britain, schools are being threatened with closure if they don’t teach about gender reassignment.

A Melbourne mother’s video has been viewed over 3.5 million times on Facebook and shared over 54,000 times, revealing what her son and daughter had told her after coming home from a “Safe Schools” class, including how to use sex toys, anal sex positions, how to masturbate, and that sexually transmitted infections are no big deal.

The school welfare officer, when questioned why a teacher had shown Year 8 students a dildo, told the Melbourne mother: “You know they’re all having sex from 12 now … it’s a much safer option that they use these devices with each other.” She added that it was part of the “safer options” curriculum.

In health class, her son was instructed to construct what he thought a vagina looked like and then remake it into the actual form.

Apart from the sexually explicit content presented to minors, the “Safe Schools” program is based on queer gender theory that teaches that a person’s gender is a social construct that can be whatever they want it to be, regardless of genitalia or chromosomes. Queer gender theory claims there is no such thing as the biological reality of the binary sexes of male and female. The “Safe Schools” Coalition resource, All of Us, lists 13 genders,[1] while Tumblr currently lists 112 gender identities[2] and 70 sexual orientations.[3]

The Victorian Labor Government under Daniel Andrews decided to ignore the 2016 Federal Government review into the “Safe Schools” Coalition resources that required the removal of the links to Minus 18, an event partner with GH Hotel, a gay bar (which closed in January 2017). Minus 18 provides a direct link to Scarleteen, a website for teens with advice on sex toys, how to tie up a sex partner, and polyamory.[4]

The “Safe Schools” Coalition resource Standout recommends the Rainbow Network, which advertises the Gender Questioning booklet. One of the organisations recommended in the GQ booklet is the Seahorse Club Victoria Inc, which in turn recommends Abode, a fetish club with a pornographic website, as a “TG friendly venue”.[5]

Abode is located at the same address as The Parlour Lounge, which provides sadomasochistic entertainment, “intimate play areas” and a pornographic website. The Andrews Labor Government decided to fund the unamended program complete with these resources after the Federal Government withdrew its funding in 2016.

The Federal Government’s Student Wellbeing Hub contains “Safe Schools” Coalition resources such as All of Us and the “Guide to supporting a student to affirm or transition gender identity at school”, which promote queer gender theory. The guide states: “If a student does not have family or carer support for the process, a decision to proceed should be made based on the school’s duty of care for the student’s wellbeing … It may be possible to consider a student a mature minor and able to make decisions without parental consent.”[6] It seems “Safe Schools” is willing to take an active part in students’ transitioning gender without their parents’ consent.

Around the country, it is a mixed bag in relation to state governments implementing “Safe Schools” or similar queer gender theory programs.

The state Liberal Coalition in Victoria has committed to scrapping the “Safe Schools” program if elected to government at the state election in 2018. Similarly, the Queensland Liberal/National Party has promised to scrap the program if elected to government at the next election.

The NSW Liberal Coalition Government has discontinued “Safe Schools” and another queer gender theory program calledCrossroads.

The Tasmanian Liberal Coalition Government has funded a new program in place of the “Safe Schools” program, in part designed by Working It Out, who ran the “Safe Schools” program in Tasmania.

In contrast Labor governments are continuing to fund and/or implement the “Safe Schools” or similar programs.

The Victorian Labor Government, as well as funding “Safe Schools”, has implemented a similar program pushing queer gender theory in primary schools, euphemistically named Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships.

The West Australian Labor Government has continued to fund the “Safe Schools” program itself. The South Australian Labor Government has funded a revised program designed by Shine SA, which was one of the partner organisations of “Safe Schools”.

The ACT Labor Government has continued to fund its own version of “Safe Schools” designed by Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT.

The Queensland Labor Government has indicated it will not fund teacher training in schools wishing to use the “Safe Schools” program after October 2017, but schools will still be able to access the “Safe Schools” Coalition resources.

British browbeating

In Britain, students and parents are also grappling with a government department forcing a transgender curriculum on schools. A Jewish girls’ primary school in London faces possible closure after the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted), failed the school on its last three inspections because it would not teach about sexual orientation and gender reassignment. Another Jewish school in Greater Manchester has avoided closure after capitulating to Ofsted’s demands to teach a transgender and sexual orientation curriculum.

According to the Daily Mail, the Vishnitz Girls’ School in London (pictured) was singled out for praise for teaching Jewish and religious studies by Ofsted inspectors and graded “good” in all areas in 2013, but since then has failed three subsequent inspections for not teaching “British values”. The inspectors said: “Pupils are not taught explicitly about issues such as sexual orientation. This restricts spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and does not take account of differing lifestyles.

“As a result, pupils are not able to gain a full understanding of fundamental British values. [Teachers] do not teach pupils about all the protected characteristics, particularly those relating to gender re-assignment and sexual orientation. This means that pupils have a limited understanding of the different lifestyles and partnerships that individuals may choose in present-day society.”[7]

In a classic case of doublespeak, a spokesman for Ofsted said: “The standards require all independent schools to actively promote fundamental British values and equalities, including respect for those with different faiths and beliefs.”[8]

Vishnitz Girls’ School has not indicated it intends to change its policy. The irony of closing down a school precisely because it adheres to a different faith and belief system from Ofsted, is obviously lost on the inspectors. “Diversity”, it seems, only works one way.

The Beis Yaakov High School in Salford, near Manchester, was another Jewish School singled out by Ofsted. When inspectors visited the school, they asked the girls questions such as, “What do you know about men being married to each other?” Based on the responses, Ofsted failed the school and conducted inspections every three months until the school agreed to teach sexual orientation and transgender issues.

After giving in to Ofsted’s demands, the school received a “good” grading within a year. The stress experienced by the students from continued inspections prompted the school to lodge a formal complaint.[9]

Several Christian schools subjected to unannounced Ofsted inspections were all downgraded from “good” to “inadequate” because they taught that marriage was between a man and a woman. Gill Robins, of Christians In Education, said that the Department of Education had launched “an all-out assault on faith values, sanctity of family and parental rights”.[10]

The Equality Act 2010 makes it mandatory for British schools to educate on a range of “protected characteristics”, including gender reassignment and sexual orientation.[11] This is analogous to the promise made by Victorian Labor Premier Daniel Andrews that the “Safe Schools” program, which teaches transgender theory, will be in every state high school in Victoria by 2018.[12]

Parental flight

Emanuele Cicchiello, Deputy Principal of a Victorian Christian school, said that around 50 per cent of enrolments in his school were due to parents, mainly from migrant backgrounds, indicating that they had withdrawn their children from government schools because of the “Safe Schools” program. His school had grown from 200 students in 2011 to 860 students in 2017.

In Britain, it seems that nothing less than complete surrender to the LGBT agenda will save schools from running foul of the law and facing the threat of being shut down. What will happen to state high-school principals who either hold faith-based views or see “Safe Schools” as a threat to children’s psychological, physical and spiritual health and who refuse to adopt the “Safe Schools” program in Victoria by next year?

One of the tenets of any successful democracy is the right to religious freedom. Let’s hope it prevails in Australia, and that the current exemptions to the Anti-Discrimination Act for faith-based organisations are not dissolved by LGBT activists lobbying legislators to remake our democracy into an Orwellian state.
