Letter: Riddle solved
by Sue ByrneNews Weekly, July 14, 2001
Sir,
Tony O'Brien in his review of "Pearl Harbor" puzzled how "lovesick Rafe" travelled by train from New York City to London.
Had Rafe's train departed from Track 29 it would be the Chattanooga Choo Choo connecting service. It was possible Rafe did the Midnight Train to Georgia all change for London service.
However, the train in the movie departed via Track 57. This direct service was discontinued, in late 1941, due to U-boats and sinking patronage.
No doubt this clarifies the issue.
