Accessories to murder (letter)

by John Young

News Weekly, August 7, 2010

Sir,

At a conservative estimate, some 70,000 people are murdered in Australia each year. But even at election time few voters pay attention to this fact.

I am referring of course to the killing of unborn babies by surgical abortion. Less than two years ago the law in Victoria was changed to permit, virtually, abortion on demand up to birth.

Late-term abortions, with the baby being cut to pieces or having its brains suctioned out after a hole is made in the skull, must cause great pain. But an amendment requiring that anaesthetic be given to the baby was rejected by the Victorian Parliament.

It is vital that in every election we vote for pro-life candidates and against those who promote abortion. It should be remembered that the right to abortion is a plank of the Australian Labor Party's platform. Each of us should get the facts, talk to people about it, and find out (for instance from pro-life organisations) what the voting record is of the candidates.

Apathy here makes us accessories to the murder of the most innocent human beings.

John Young,
Melbourne, Vic.
