Legalising abortion (letter)

by Robert Bom

News Weekly, March 5, 2011
Sir,

A group of lobbyists and politicians have been preparing for a legislative assault on Queensland's unborn children. They want a free run for abortion up to the point of a baby's birth.

There are remarkable similarities to be found in the history of slave ownership, trading and abortion. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, white people had a legal right to own black slaves. Slaves were classed as property and had no rights.

Britain, and therefore, Australia abolished ownership of slaves well before the United States did. In the US it finally took the 1861-1865 Civil War to outlaw the practice.

The child of a pregnant woman is a separate entity from her. This child has its own DNA, a different identity and mostly has a different blood group. And it has legislative rights, which are often ignored.

Slaves were there for the pleasure of their masters to do as they wanted. There was no legislative protection for them.

Now the lobbyists and some politicians want all rights taken away from our unborn children as well.

Premier Bligh, tell these lobbyists and politicians to jump in the lake!
