Political spin on climate (letter)

by Bob Brooks

News Weekly, December 11, 2010
Sir,

There is a consensus between some politicians and scientists that our CO2 emissions are causing global warming.

Consensus is not science.

When you consider the millions of available temperature measurements, the global temperature has fallen by over half a degree Celsius over the last 12 years.

In the unforgettable words of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, IPCC lead author Kevin Trenberth in October 2009: "Where the heck is the global warming? ... The data are surely wrong."

Our government obviously agrees. If the data do not match the computer predictions, the data must be wrong and so we need a price on carbon.

Our Prime Minister calls that science. Most of the scientists I know call it political spin.

Bob Brooks,
Geraldton, WA
