Treasury's role in OzCar affair (letter)

Sir,

As always, Colin Teese (News Weekly, August 22) displays a deep knowledge of the Canberra bureaucracy. However, he has not chosen to explain why a revenue-gathering department (Treasury) was given the $2 billion OzCar scheme to administer.

These sorts of subsidies to industry are usually administered by spending departments such as Commerce or Industry.

Also, why has the head of the Treasury, Dr Ken Henry, not been asked to explain Gordon Grech's lack of professionalism given that he is one of his departmental officers?

This has happened on Dr Henry's watch, and the Senate or the media should ask him: when did he become aware of Mr Grech's behaviour?
