China's jackboot diplomacy (letter)

by M. Gordon

News Weekly, May 10, 2008
Sir,

As a resident of Canberra, I expected the Olympic torch relay to be quite a spectacle.

I did not expect it to be a completely overwhelming Chinese propaganda event with vast numbers of bussed-in red flag-wavers.

I now understand how the Tibetans feel marginalised in their own land.

China's jackboot diplomacy did not work.

(Mr) M. Gordon,
Flynn, ACT
