Millions squandered (letter)

by Alan Barron

News Weekly, April 14, 2007

Sir,

It's outrageous that the Victorian Bracks Labor Government has squandered $100 million of taxpayers' money on an environmental impact study on the proposal to deepen shipping channels in Port Phillip Bay. What a monumental waste of money!

Just imagine how far this sort of money would go to alleviate the chronic under-funding of the state's hospitals and health care services, or the over-stretched educational system - not to mention our dwindling water supplies.

The health and education of Victorian people are far more important than any environmental impact survey.

It's time the needs of people came before the worship of the environment.

Alan Barron,
Grovedale, Vic.
