Victory on TV Code of Practice
, July 31, 2004
A proposed draft code for free-to-air commercial TV would have reduced the after-school G classification zone from 4 pm - 7:30pm down to just 4 pm - 5 pm, allowing PG programs from 5 pm onwards.
After receiving a record number of submissions from concerned families, and questioning of the justification for the proposal by the Australian Broadcasting Authority under former head, Professor David Flint, Free TV Australia had to accept a final code which retained the G classification zone from 4 pm -7 pm. At least Fat Cat doesn't have to go to bed at 5 pm, thanks to these efforts!
Unfortunately, the weekend G classification zone was reduced so that PG programs can now be screened from 10am onwards instead of 7:30 pm.
